Golf is an amazing and complex sport. Not only is it a game of many tricks and terms, but the scoring is done in an unusual way. If in basketball, shooting or gymnastics, the more points an athlete has, the better, then here it is vice versa: for example, 80 is better than 95. What explains this and how do you calculate a golf score?

A LITTLE BIT OF TERMINOLOGY

Par (E) – the number of strokes given to a particular hole.
Birdie – Passing the hole one stroke less than par.
Eagle – Walking a hole two strokes less than par.
Albatross is three strokes less than the par-5 hole.
Bogey – one more hole than par. (Double, Triple and Quadruple Boggs are, respectively, two, three and four strokes more than par.
Handicap is an average numerical score based on statistics and shows the skill level of the athlete. This parameter allows players of different levels to meet on equal terms. Also, the handicap can become a criterion for admission of the player to competitions and even certain golf courses and be a condition based on which the player is assigned a sports grade. The official system in Russia is the EGA Handicap System.
Flight is a group of athletes walking the golf course together.

THE EASIEST WAY FOR BEGINNERS

Just getting acquainted with the rules of golf and the basics of the game, it is quite difficult for beginners to control the rounds and passing holes with all the nuances. To avoid getting it wrong, they can use the easiest way to score – by recording the holes they win and lose. It is easy to do: it is necessary to record the number of strokes that it took the player and his opponent to score, and the total number of all holes. For example, if player A took 3 strokes to drive the ball into the hole and player B took 5 strokes, the player who took fewer strokes (that is, 3) wins. The winner will be determined by the sum of the won holes.

SCORECARD
The Scorecard is a scorecard which records everything about the game: the features of the golf course, the number of holes, the player’s score and the result of the competition. At the end of the match, the fly partners check each other’s scorecard entries, authenticate the scorecard with their signatures and the marker’s autograph, and then hand it over to the panel of judges. The score card reflects the entire course of the game, so it should be filled out carefully and carefully. A player may be disqualified for false information about the course of the match.

The scoring system in the main game formats is based on par, which is determined for each hole separately, depending on the length of the course, terrain, presence of obstacles and traps. The most common are standard holes with par-3s, par-4s and par-5s. A standard course consists of 18 holes, and the total par of the course is based on the sum of the par scores for each hole.

The combination of holes in STRAWBERRY FIELDS looks like this:

par-3 – four holes;
Par-4 – ten holes;
Par-5 – four holes.

The scorecard shows the par for each hole. As a player walks the course, he must record the number of strokes it took him to score the ball, at each stage of the game.

Typically, an 18-hole course has a Par 72. The lower the total sum of strokes on a player’s card, the closer he is to winning.

The final result of the game is affected not only the accuracy of the athlete and the number of strokes, but also the presence of penalties. Penalty system in golf provides penalties for violations of the rules and etiquette from penalties to disqualification of the player.

If several players have the same number of points after the final round, there is a replay to determine the winner.
