In golf, as in other sports, there are many terms that to the uninitiated seem like magic spells. Some of them may never be useful. But other details, such as basic strokes and sticks, player positions, scoring rules, and competition formats, form the basis without which there is nothing to do on the field. Let’s try to figure it out.

BASIC STROKES IN GOLF.
The game is played on the golf course – a specially prepared area with heterogeneous terrain. The first stroke is made from the site, called the tee, and the last area with a hole, where you need to drive the ball, is the green – the area with the lowest grass. Most of the golf course is occupied by the fairway, covered with a medium-high grass. And the area with the longest grass, where it is most difficult to hit the ball, is called a rough. Rough is not only a hole designed for driving the ball, but also an area from tee to green, which may be special traps of sand, water or grass, and natural obstacles in the form of rocks, twigs and even insects. The standard golf course consists of 18 holes.

The basic movement, consisting of swing, swing and direct hit, is called swing. It is the basic technique for all clubs except the putter, and the basis for hitting.

Drive is the very first shot a player takes on the hole. It is played from a special stand with the drive, the club with the longest shaft and the biggest head at a small tilt. The purpose of the drive is to knock the ball off the tee as far as possible and accurately in the direction of the green. Sometimes players take this shot with another version of a club with a big head, the voodoo.

Golf strokes
The chip is a short, relatively low shot, after which the ball rolls, covering a considerable distance. It is usually used near the green. For the chip usually use a wage club, which is also used to knock balls out of the bunker (sand trap) or iron club with a metal head, convenient for pulling the ball out of the high grass. Golf strokes
Pitch is a high stroke to carry over an obstacle (raff, water or bunker), after which the ball slows down quickly and hardly moves at all. Also used next to the green and is performed with a special club with a high angle of inclination – send-wedge. Golf strokes
The putting stroke is a smooth rolling stroke used to put the ball in the hole on the green. Performed with a putter that uses a pendulum motion rather than a swing. Golf strokes

Blow on a perfectly flat and straight path is called a straight shot. But due to various factors, the performance of such a blow is very rare: there will always be a factor that interferes with the accurate flight of the ball.

Other types of strokes:

Hook is a right-handed shot with a straight shot that deflects the ball strongly to the left.

Golf strokes
Slice is a right-handed shot in which the ball is strongly deflected to the right after flying in a straight line.

Golf strokes
A straight-ahead right-handed tee shot which, after a straight-ahead flight, causes the ball to bend slightly to the left.

Golf strokes
Fade: A shot from the right side stand with a straight upswing, which causes the ball to bend slightly to the right. Golf strokes
A putt is a stroke taken from the right-hand stand with the ball flying to the left of the target. Golf strokes
A putt is a stroke taken from the right side of the rack, with the ball flying to the right of the target. Golf strokes

Strongly twisted strokes to the left and right may be called a pool hook and a putt slice. Slice, pool, push, and hook are undesirable techniques that cause the ball to deflect from its intended trajectory, making the game inevitably more difficult.

A LITTLE ABOUT HOCKEY STICKS
The construction of a hockey stick consists of the head, which directly strikes the ball, a handle covered with rubber or leather, and a metal or plastic rod that connects the upper and lower parts of the projectile. There are about 30 types of such equipment, but the rules limit the maximum number that a player can use in a match to 14 sticks. They all differ in the design of the head, the angle and the length of the shaft and are used for playing on different parts of the golf course.

Irons golf clubs. Needed for accurate strokes at medium to short distance, as well as for the first swing at a small hole and “pulling” the ball out of the raffle.
Woods golf clubs. Used for hitting the longest distance possible, mostly from the tees.
Wedgie golf clubs. This is a kind of irons, but these clubs are used mainly for knocking out a trapped ball.
Golf Putters. Special clubs which allow you to make soft, accurate strokes on the green. Sometimes they are used to knock the ball onto the green from areas of low grass, where other clubs and strokes can easily break the ball further than necessary.

For each shot, the player chooses the most appropriate putter to help him hit the ball as accurately and as close to the green as possible.
